Despite strong words and commitments by world leaders, 100 million children (60% of whom are girls), are still missing out on a basic education. School fees and the prohibitive costs of simple items such as uniform and books are preventing girls from attending school. Often families can only afford to send one child, meaning that girls have to watch as their brothers go to school.
