Student's conference on the Global Marshall Plan
On 27 March 2006 a student conference on the "Global Marshall Plan" took place at the BundesprƤsident-Theodor-Heuss-Schule Homberg/Efze, Germany (THS). The event was a part of the Comenius-activities, promoted by the European Union, on the subject "education for sustainable development in Europe". Those have been organized at the THS for years with great success and with the participation of students and teachers from the UK, Spain, Rumania and Czechoslovakia.
Edwin Ferger was invited as the Initiative's international coordinator for education to take part in the conference. "I was impressed by the enjoyment and enthusiasm of the students. Students from four nations worked together in mixed groups on different aspects of the UN Millennium Development Goals.” After the investigations and analyses in the morning, the groups presented the results of their work in the afternoon. They showed a high level of creativity, e.g. in analyzing precisely and convincingly the existing structural connections, like the vicious circle of poor development – malnutrition - illness – poverty, which were presented in role play using the English as a common language.
At the end of the conference, Edwin Ferger gave a talk on "Contributions of a Global Marshall Plan to improve the situation in Africa." At the end, he showed two clips from the Globalization Saga, the musical on issues of the Global Marshall Plan, which was received by students, teachers and parents with great enthusiasm.
