International Club of Rome Conference in Berlin
"Policy Changes in the Next Phase of Globalisation" was the motto of the conference to which Germany's Federal President Köhler invited. It took place in Bellevue Castle (Berlin) on 6 November 2007.
25 people discussed the issue of a just and sustainable global framework. In his speech titled "Learning to share" President Köhler stressed the importance of acting to reach such a framework. He considers the Global Marshall Plan, which is supported by the Club of Rome, a concept which might help to get to the goal of a peaceful, just and sustainable world.
Meeting at the SPES-Academy
After talks in Istanbul, Madrid, Geneva etc. another meeting on the International Consultation Process took place in Schlierbach, Austria on 28 and 29 November. In their productive discussions the 16 participants from Austria and Germany clarified their understanding of the consultation process as well as its goals and the potential within. They, furthermore, underlined the Global
Marshall Plan Initiative's role in this process as initiator and facilitator
among several equal partners.
Another issue they discussed was the process design and the allocation of resources.
The minutes of the meeting will be available in English next week. If you are interested in obtaining them, please email us at consultation@globalmarshallplan.org.
The meeting benefited from the different perspectives the participants from various organizations brought in. They contributed their experience with consultation processes on local, european and global level. The next meeting of the project team will take place in January 2008 with the participation of team members from the USA and Canada.
Network of Hope:
The next important step is to build a network of partners for the project "International Consultation Prozess" to start the process together. In this network all regions of the world shall be represented. A
first meeting of the partners is scheduled for March.

Acting together for a just world
The overall theme of the 8th World Assembly will be Acting Together for a Just World, with a focus theme of People, Participation and Power.
People, Participation and Power involves people coming together to access, engage and participate in the various spheres of governance at the local, national and international levels. Civil society has long bemoaned the fact that governments do not appear to listen to the voice of the people. What therefore is the role of civil society in governance?; why is its participation so resisted?; what does civil society need to do to overcome these challenges? Business seems to be more successful at getting governments to hear their views; Can we learn anything from some of the methods they employ?
Once again the 2008 programme will include plenaries, mini-plenaries, learning exchanges – such as a visit to the Scottish Parliament – workshops, film screenings and networking opportunities.
