After Angela Merkel and Tony Blair spoke out for globalization with a social face and a new global framework, a number of politicians from various
countries also called for it. Among them were the Russian Foreign Minister Sergej Lawrow, the German Minister for the Environment Sigmar Gabriel and
Chile's former President Ricardo Lagos. Romano Prodi, the Italian President, as well as Austria's Chancellor Schüssel pointed at Europe's role and
responsibility in this processes. The international call for such frameworks yields hope that it will become an issue at next year's G8 meeting.
The Catholic church too, engages with these issues, as the motto of the recent German Catholic Church Congress proves. The motto was justice. In an
interview Bishop Reinhard Marx talked about the reorientation within the church.

Franz Fischler, former EU Commissioner, appreciates the introduction of a currency transaction tax to finance part of the EU's budget and to
increase the means for development cooperation. The so called Tobin Tax is also proposed by the Global Marshall Plan Initiative as a possible means for
financing of development.
