On 23 May 2006, the Finance Committee of the Austrian Parliament agreed
unanimously to review in Parliament the introduction of international taxes
to finance supranational duties, e.g. the fulfilment of the Millennium

b) Thuringia
On 25 April 2006, the Global Marshall Plan regional group Thuringia was
founded in Erfurt. 20 people from different backgrounds came together in
order to advocate jointly the goals of the Initiative in their province.
Their first goal is to make the Federal State of Thuringia supporter of the
Global Marshall Plan Initiative. Thuringia would be the first German Federal
State to officially stand behind the Initiative's goals. As a first step,
the group sent letters to all parliamentary groups as well as Prime Minister
Althaus who already supports the Initiative.

Like Angela Merkel Great Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair too called for
a reform of the international institutions in order to react adequately to
the challenges of globalization. In his speech, held at the Georgetown
University (USA) on 26 May 2006, Blair appealed to the community of states
to base their actions on the universal values of freedom, democracy,
tolerance and justice and to create frameworks which allow developing
countries to grow, wealthy countries to maintain their standard of living
and the environment to be protected.
