In an interview with the German magazine "Stern" Jeffrey Sachs, Kofi
Annan's Special Advisor on the Millennium Development Goals, said "We need
something like a new Marshall Plan" ("Wir brauchen so etwas wie einen neuen
Marshallplan."). He stressed the importance of investing into implementable
projects which are reviewable and benefit the people.
The United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) also calls for a Marshall Plan to
help the world's poorest 50 countries. According to a report by ZDF (German
public television channel), this plan entails better access for poor countries
to the markets of the rich north, a liberal economy and more financial
aid.
