1. Your photographs wanted

We are seeking to build up a picture pool since we constantly need good photographs for public relations. Your picture could be displayed on our website or even become the cover picture of our next publications. Any kind of motif could be interesting, but "snaphots" of people and photos carrying the connotation fo balance, joint actions, alliance, peaceful togetherness etc. are especially welcome. We can only use pictures you are holding the rights of. Please contact Helge Bork if you would like to submit photographs.

2. Global Marshall Plan near you

Thanks to the growing support from individuals and organizations in Europe and beyond, the Global Marshall Plan Initiative is expanding to more an more countries. National teams are developing in Greece, Spain and Turkey. If you are interested in joining one of these teams, please contact
- Mr. Guillermo O. Vetcher for Spain
- Mr. Hakan Balci for Turkey.

Supporters in Greece are interested in establishing a Global Marshall Plan team. If you have any recomendations about whom to invite to join the Greek team, please inform Helge Bork.

Apart from the national teams, there are also local teams emerging. In mid March a group of supporters of the Global Marshall Plan Initiative from Berlin got together to prepare the formation of a Global Marshall Plan local committee in Berlin. The Berlin team will meet regularly and develop activities on how to promote the Global Marshall Plan in their city. Please refer to the events section if you are interested in paricipating in their next meeting on April 5th.
The coordination office developed a first draft with guidelines for local committees (German, pdf, 60 kB).

3. Global Marshall Plan workshop in Bangladesh

Our supporters from "Lichtbrücke e.V." organized a Global Marshall Plan workshop at the Universtiy of South Asia in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Despite adverse circumstances - a major strike - the workshop took place on January 29th. The participants were not discouraged by the strike and covered the distance to the university on foot. Some of them walked 6 kilometers to participate in the event. The organizers were overwhelmed with the response to the workshop. It is planned to build upon this basis for the further development of the Global Marshall Plan Initiative in Bangladesh.

4. Global Marshall Plan launched in Nigeria

The Global Marshall Plan Initiative is gaining support in Africa: On March 5th, Liberty 4 Africa (L4A) presented the Global Marshall Plan Initiative to the Nigerian press. Careca Akarue, CEO of L4A, considers the Initiative "the best way forward for the world challenges an especially my great continent Africa." He belives that "This initiative will help to reduce poverty in developing countries, and enable them to adopt domestic policies and strengthen institutions that will enable people to take advantage of global markets and thus will sharply increase the share of trade in their GDP. 5. The Alternative Nobel Price and the alternative

From March 8th to 12th, thirteen laureats of the Right Livelihood Award, among them Johan Galtung, Nicanor Perlas and Vandana Shiva, came together in Munich, Germany to discuss alternatives to the current erroneous development. The Global Marshall Plan was widely discussed in the context of finding an alternative that could lead to a sustainable future. Our supporter Carl-Ernst Müller participated in the event and wrote a short report.

6. Global Marshall Plan at World Youth Day

From August 16 - 25th, the 20th World Youth Day will take place in Cologne, Germany. On invitaion of the Pope, about 800,000 youths from all over the world will participate. The aim is to promote a dialogue between generations. The World Youth Day is considered a source of richness and youth by the Church. The Global Marshall Plan Initiative is organizing a workshop with the aim of spreading the idea of the Initiative among the participants.

7. EU citizens' attitudes towards development cooperation

According to a Eurobarometer survey European citizens from the 25 Member States expect the EU to act as a driving force for development cooperation. Most respondents feel that Europe is the actor best placed to help Africa. Fields in which EU development aid is considered most effective are the fight against HIV/AIDS and other diseases, education and poverty. Despite the fact that Europe is the world's leading aid donor, the survey shows that awareness of action by Europe is very limited. What is more, 88% of all citizens have never heard about the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This shows the importance of awareness campaigns forming up all over Europe, like "Make Poverty History" in Ireland and the UK and "Pobreza Cero" in Spain, being part of the "Global Call for Action Against Poverty".
